Real Answers to Real Business Owner Questions – AI Q&A Series, Episode 1

“How can I use AI to find more money in my business?”
That was the exact question Nicholas asked me during a presentation at our local Chamber of Commerce. And it’s one of the best questions a business owner could ask right now.

Because while most conversations around AI focus on saving time, the bigger opportunity is using AI to uncover and capture revenue you're currently missing.

This blog (and video) is part of a new series where I answer real AI questions from real business owners — one topic at a time, without the tech overwhelm.

Let’s dive in.

Why This Matters: AI Isn’t Just About Efficiency — It’s About Opportunity

AI is incredible at helping you streamline tasks — but what’s even more powerful is using it to spot money you’re leaving on the table.

In this post, you’ll learn a three-step framework to do just that:

  1. Map where the money already flows in your business

  2. Mine your client list for hidden revenue

  3. Turn insights into campaigns that drive cash flow

You don’t need to be tech-savvy, and you don’t need complex tools. Let’s walk through it.

Step 1: Map Where Money Is Already Flowing

Before bringing AI into the equation, you need a clear picture of how revenue currently moves through your business.

Start by identifying three client categories:

  • New clients (first-time buyers)

  • Existing clients (who could expand or deepen the relationship)

  • Past clients (people who used to buy but haven’t in a while)

For each group, jot down:

  • What they usually buy

  • What it’s roughly worth

  • How they typically end up doing business with you

You can do this on paper or in a basic spreadsheet. Keep it simple — this isn’t about building a CRM, it’s about gaining clarity.

Then, bring in AI to spot the leaks.

Once you have your revenue map, feed it into AI using this prompt:

Prompt #1:
Act as a revenue strategist. Here are my revenue streams and client types. For each one, identify specific ways I might be leaving money on the table. Separate quick wins from longer-term ideas. Use practical, plain language.

This turns AI into a strategic brainstorming partner — not just a robot, but a thinking assistant who can spot overlooked patterns like:

  • Missed renewal opportunities

  • Add-on services customers aren’t using

  • Gaps in your follow-up process

  • Referral triggers you’ve ignored

Step 2: Mine Your Existing Clients for Hidden Revenue

Next, you’ll use AI to analyze your existing clients and group them into meaningful, money-making segments.

If you use a CRM, export a summary — or just use a spreadsheet with these fields:

  • Client type (individual, business, etc.)

  • Age range or life stage

  • Products/services they use

  • Tenure (how long they’ve been with you)

  • Approximate revenue

  • Last point of contact

Don’t paste personal data — just describe the structure to AI.

Prompt #2:
These are anonymized client records. Group them into meaningful segments and identify where there are likely opportunities to cross-sell, upsell, or re-engage clients. Explain your reasoning in plain language.

AI will segment your list and say things like:

  • “Clients who have A and B but not C are strong candidates for C”

  • “Clients who haven’t been contacted in 12+ months but generated strong revenue may be ready for reactivation”

  • “This segment is under-contacted compared to others and may be slipping away”

📌 You don’t just get a list — you get strategy. Clear, actionable insight into who to reach out to and why.

Step 3: Turn Insights into Revenue-Generating Campaigns

Now that you’ve got your opportunity segments, you’re ready to communicate — and AI can write the messages for you.

Here’s how to prompt AI to write your campaigns:

Prompt #3:
Write a 3-email sequence to re-engage clients in this segment: [describe the segment]. Email 1 should check in and remind them of the value they’ve already received. Email 2 should introduce a relevant review or service. Email 3 should invite them to book a quick call.

If you prefer personal outreach, try this:

Prompt #4:
Write a phone script for calling clients in this segment. The goal is to check in, review their situation, and explore whether a specific service might be a good fit.

Or:

Write a text message or short letter to re-engage these clients in a friendly, non-salesy way.

You can generate email copy, text messages, phone scripts, or even direct mail letters — all tailored to your voice, audience, and offers.

📌 Bonus Tip: If you don’t know what to offer, ask AI directly:

Based on this segment’s behavior, what’s a relevant service or offer I could provide that would add value and increase revenue?

Make It a Monthly or Quarterly Habit (This Is Where the Magic Happens)

Most businesses stop after one outreach. But the real power is in building a repeatable system.

At MSW Interactive Designs, we recommend doing this:

  • Monthly if you want to grow aggressively

  • Quarterly if you're in maintenance mode but want steady gains

Here’s the process:

  1. Export or summarize your latest client data

  2. Use the same prompts to re-identify opportunity segments

  3. Refresh your outreach content

  4. Launch your next campaign

This creates a predictable rhythm where AI continually taps you on the shoulder and says:

“Hey — there’s money here you haven’t touched yet.”

And that's exactly how you start using AI for growth, not just automation.

Recap: How to Use AI to Find More Revenue

To summarize the system:

  • Map how money flows through your business

  • Use AI to identify missed opportunities and client segments

  • Generate outreach campaigns using simple prompts

  • Repeat the process regularly to keep your pipeline full

This is smart, strategic marketing — powered by AI, but led by you.
